"I always have to dream up there against the stars. If I don't dream I will make it, then I wont even get close."
For me the desire to write began as early as the mid-fifties, but for one lame reason or another never managed to make any serious effort until I retired.
Down through the years I was influenced by many writers beginning at eight years old by Jules Verne. Through the years I discovered many others who served to mold the way I think.
Science fiction has always been my main passion fueled along the way by such as Edward Everett "doc" Smith, Robert Heinleim, Isaac Azimov, Alfred Bester and John D. McDonald whom I had the great good fortune to meet at a convention.
My Fantasy world grew from reading Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard and A.A.Milne (yes he wrote stories other than 'Winnie the Pooh')
The grist for my stories came from a wide variety of zones.
A vivid imagination, observing the life around me , events, dreams even and of course a lot of research.
In some I use narration as a tool, in others I imagine myself sitting around a campfire with others and telling a story
Some of my stories I have re-written many many times as others will testify. but there comes a time when you just have to say, "okay thats it".
Okay that's it.
One person I have to thank for her constant help and encouragement along the way is my good friend "The Storyteller".
I would be terribly remiss also if I did not give a very special thanks to Catch Ideas for all her great help in in helping me produce this site.
Now onto Garratts World and I hope you find something of interest to enjoy.
